Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to positioning Ghana as Africa’s premier mining destination through President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Agenda.”

The minister made the remarks on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, during the Exclusive Investors’ Forum held at the Penn Club of New York and hosted by Newcore Gold Ltd.

Addressing a distinguished gathering of global mining investors, the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah outlined the Mahama administration’s strategic vision to transform Ghana into a major hub for critical minerals, including lithium, bauxite and iron ore.

He was accompanied by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith.

According to the minister, the Reset Agenda is designed to strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in the global mining industry while attracting sustainable investments across the extractive sector.

“I shared the vision of President John Dramani Mahama’s ‘Reset Agenda,’ which is a transformative drive to solidify Ghana’s position as Africa’s premier mining destination and a rising hub for critical minerals, including lithium, bauxite, and iron ore,” he stated.

Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah further highlighted the wide range of investment opportunities available within Ghana’s mining value chain, including large-scale extraction, mineral refining, engineering services and downstream processing.

He assured investors of government’s commitment to promoting responsible mining, regulatory stability and transparency to ensure long-term growth in the sector.

“Ghana is diversifying, Ghana is open for business and Ghana is ready for the future,” the minister added.

The forum formed part of efforts to deepen international partnerships and attract strategic investments into Ghana’s mining industry at a time when global demand for critical minerals continues to rise due to the expansion of renewable energy technologies and electric vehicle production.

Ghana has increasingly gained international attention for its untapped deposits of lithium, bauxite and iron ore, in addition to its longstanding reputation as one of Africa’s leading gold producers.

  • Bagbin, Foreign Ministry and AG Join Efforts to Resolve Detention of Ghanaian MP in Netherlands – Dafeamekpor

Bagbin, Foreign Ministry and AG Join Efforts to Resolve Detention of Ghanaian MP in Netherlands – Dafeamekpor

Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor says Parliament and key state institutions have stepped in following the detention of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North in the Netherlands.

According to him, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 10, 2026, and was immediately reported to parliamentary leadership after he received information about the situation.

Speaking on ChannelOne TV’s The Point of View, Dafeamekpor disclosed that the Majority Leader quickly engaged authorities in the Netherlands to understand the circumstances surrounding the MP’s detention.

He explained that the response has since expanded to include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana’s Embassy in The Hague, the Attorney General’s Department, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, and the Clerk to Parliament. “We have coordinated this matter very well,” he stated.

Dafeamekpor revealed that Parliament has also secured legal representation for the detained lawmaker. According to him, a Ghanaian lawyer based in The Hague is currently handling the matter and engaging prosecutors in Amsterdam.

He further explained that the Attorney General’s involvement became necessary because of legal issues linked to the Rome Statute and the MP’s use of a diplomatic passport. “The Speaker himself has been brought in,” he added.

The South Dayi MP noted that discussions and consultations among diplomatic and legal officials have continued since the incident occurred.

He assured the public that the detained MP remains safe and in good condition. Dafeamekpor also appealed to media organisations to avoid circulating unverified information, stressing that authorities are still waiting for authenticated documents relating to the arrest warrant. “The warrant for his arrest, we are yet to receive the authenticated copy,” he said.

He explained that although the trip was private, the use of a diplomatic passport has made the issue one of national and parliamentary concern.

Diplomatic and legal efforts to resolve the matter are ongoing.

  • Eastern Nzema Chieftaincy Dispute: Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Camp Rejects Alleged Supreme Court Ruling

Eastern Nzema Chieftaincy Dispute: Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Camp Rejects Alleged Supreme Court Ruling

The Secretariat of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III has strongly refuted reports alleging that the Supreme Court has unanimously affirmed Awulae Blay IX as Paramount Chief of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.

In a press statement dated May 13, 2026, the Secretariat described a publication circulating under the banner of “Nzema Today” as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to distort the true legal standing of the ongoing Eastern Nzema chieftaincy dispute.

According to the statement, no certified judgment from the Supreme Court has been made available to substantiate the widely circulated claims.

The Secretariat further argued that the publication failed to provide critical legal details, including the suit number, names of the presiding panel, reliefs granted, or extracts from the purported ruling.

It added that there has been no official confirmation from the Judicial Service of Ghana or any recognised legal reporting platform regarding such a judgment.

“The said publication is misleading, unverified, and appears deliberately calculated to create a false public impression regarding the true legal position of the chieftaincy matters concerning the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area,” portions of the statement noted.

The camp of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III also maintained that there is currently no respondent before either the High Court in Sekondi or the Supreme Court officially recognised as “Awulae Blay IX.”

According to the statement, throughout the legal proceedings, the applicant remains Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III in his capacity as Omanhene of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area and President of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.

The Secretariat explained that the substantive matter remains pending before the Judicial Committee of the Western Regional House of Chiefs in the case titled Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III v. Berenger Aka Flanton.

It stressed that the Judicial Committee remains the appropriate legal forum to determine any claim by Mr. Berenger Aka Flanton to the title of “Awulae Blay IX.”

The statement further alleged that several attempts to serve Mr. Flanton with court processes had proven unsuccessful due to what it described as “persistent evasion of service.”

The Secretariat insisted that no court of competent jurisdiction has declared Mr. Berenger Aka Flanton as Omanhene of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Area.

It therefore urged the public, traditional authorities, institutions, and stakeholders to disregard the publication until an authentic and certified court ruling is officially released.

The statement was signed by Patrick Amihere on behalf of the Secretariat of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III.

Professor Agyare, who currently serves as Provost of the College of Health Sciences at KNUST, was confirmed for the position during a Governing Council meeting held on Wednesday morning.

He is expected to officially assume office on August 1, 2026, succeeding Professor Rita Akosua Dickson whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment follows KNUST’s statutory process for selecting a Vice-Chancellor, which typically involves the constitution of a Search Committee to assess qualified candidates based on academic credentials, administrative experience, leadership qualities, and strategic vision.

Professor Agyare is widely recognised for his contributions to health sciences research and academic administration. His appointment is expected to reinforce KNUST’s focus on research excellence, innovation, and international academic collaboration.

His elevation comes at a time when the university is expanding its digital infrastructure and strengthening its global research footprint.

The transition also follows public discussions surrounding the tenure of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson.

Earlier debates over a proposed extension of her tenure generated reactions from some university unions and alumni groups, with concerns raised over governance procedures and retirement protocols.

Professor Dickson, who became KNUST’s first female Vice-Chancellor, is credited with overseeing significant institutional reforms and infrastructure development during her tenure.

As incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor Agyare is expected to address key issues including labour relations with university unions such as the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Tertiary Education Workers Union (TEWU), staff welfare concerns, campus security, and research funding.

His appointment has already generated conversations within academic circles about the future direction of leadership and institutional growth at KNUST.

  • Concerned Youth of Esiama Defend Dr. Sipa-Yankey Over Resurfaced Mabey & Johnson Allegations

Concerned Youth of Esiama Defend Dr. Sipa-Yankey Over Resurfaced Mabey & Johnson Allegations

The Concerned Youth of Esiama has defended Dr. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, Board Chairman of PSC Tema Shipyard and Drydock Limited, following the resurfacing of allegations linked to the 2009 UK Mabey & Johnson bribery case.

In a press statement issued on May 12, 2026, the group described the renewed circulation of the allegations as a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of the former Health Minister and undermine his current role at the Tema Shipyard.

According to the group, no Ghanaian court has found Dr. Sipa-Yankey guilty of any offence in relation to the matter.

They stated that the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), after investigating the allegations years ago, cleared him of wrongdoing.

The statement further noted that Dr. Sipa-Yankey voluntarily resigned as Health Minister in 2009 to protect the Presidency from distraction while he sought to clear his name.

The group also stressed that the UK court proceedings were against Mabey & Johnson Ltd and not any Ghanaian individual, adding that no Ghanaian was placed on trial in the case.

Citing Article 19(2)(c) of the 1992 Constitution, the group maintained that every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of jurisdiction.

Defending his appointment as Board Chairman of PSC Tema Shipyard and Drydock Limited in February 2026, the group said Dr. Sipa-Yankey was selected based on his experience, competence, and contributions to Ghana’s public sector.

They highlighted his role in the establishment of Ghana Gas, where he previously served as Chief Executive Officer, describing the institution as one of Ghana’s major economic assets.

According to the statement, the previous NPP administration conducted a forensic audit into the operations and finances of Ghana Gas after assuming office in 2017 but found no wrongdoing against Dr. Sipa-Yankey.

The group added that no corruption allegations were leveled against him throughout the eight-year tenure of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Touching on developments at the Tema Shipyard, the statement said ongoing rehabilitation works under Dr. Sipa-Yankey’s leadership include the restoration of Dock 1, equipment modernization, and workforce reforms aimed at transforming the facility into a leading maritime repair hub in West Africa.

The group urged the public to reject what it described as “recycled and unproven allegations” intended to derail efforts to revive the strategic national asset.

It also warned unnamed individuals allegedly behind the renewed attacks to desist from politicising the matter.

“Dr. Sipa-Yankey remains committed to serving Ghana with integrity and will not be distracted by recycled claims that have no standing in Ghanaian law,” the statement concluded.
