Parliament has confirmed the detention of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, at the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
This was contained in an official statement issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the Speaker of Parliament and the leadership of the House are currently engaging Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to obtain detailed information regarding the incident.
“It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Hon Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at the Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam in the Netherlands,” portions of the statement read.
Parliament further assured the public that updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
“The Rt Hon Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague for detailed information on the matter. The public will be duly informed appropriately on this matter,” the statement added.
The circumstances surrounding the detention remain unclear as no official details have yet been released by authorities in the Netherlands.
The development has since generated public interest, with many awaiting further clarification from Parliament and Ghana’s diplomatic mission.
