Heart of Lions captain Ebenezer Abban has completed a move to Malaysia Super League outfit Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota Football Club (DPMM FC) ahead of the 2026/27 season, bringing an end to his impressive stint with the Kpando-based club.
The 28-year-old centre-back leaves Heart of Lions after emerging as one of the standout defenders in the Ghana Premier League. His commanding performances, leadership qualities and consistency at the heart of the defence played a pivotal role in the club’s impressive campaign.
Abban’s outstanding displays attracted interest from several clubs outside Ghana, with DPMM FC ultimately winning the race for the signature of the highly-rated defender.
The experienced defender arrives in the Malaysian Brunei Premier League with an impressive résumé, having represented Ghana at both CHAN level with the Black Galaxies and the senior national team, the Black Stars.
His move to the Bandar Seri Begawan-based side marks his first overseas transfer of his career and presents a fresh challenge as he prepares for the upcoming season. He is expected to add experience, leadership and defensive stability to the squad.
Heart of Lions will now be tasked with filling the void left by their influential captain as they intensify preparations for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Abban’s departure is the latest example of the Ghana Premier League’s (GPL’s) growing reputation as a platform for developing players capable of making successful transitions to clubs across Asia and Europe.
