Aduana FC CEO Collins Atta Poku backs Kurt Okraku on decline in football hooliganism

Aduana FC Chief Executive Officer, Collins Atta Poku, has agreed with Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku that hooliganism has significantly declined in Ghana football.

Atta Poku made the observation during the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress, as stakeholders assessed developments within the domestic game and discussed the way forward for Ghana football.

The Aduana FC CEO acknowledged that while there were still isolated incidents of disorder during the recently concluded season, the overall level of violence and confrontation at match venues had reduced considerably.

He said the progress should be recognised, particularly when compared with previous seasons that were marred by serious incidents of violence, including the loss of life at a football stadium.

“To move from someone dying at the stadium to completing a season without much skirmish, there was some which I was involved anyway, but it has curbed down and we hope to build on it,” Atta Poku said.

His comments reinforce Kurt Okraku’s assertion that Ghana football has made considerable strides in addressing hooliganism and improving safety at match venues.

Hooliganism has long been a concern in Ghana football, with clashes involving supporters and other forms of unruly behaviour occasionally threatening the reputation of the domestic game.

However, Atta Poku believes the reduction in such incidents represents a positive development that must be sustained.

He stressed the need for football stakeholders to build on the progress achieved and ensure that the sport continues to provide a safe and welcoming environment for supporters, players, match officials and other participants.

The decline in stadium-related violence is also expected to contribute to efforts to improve the matchday experience and restore confidence among fans and potential commercial partners.

The 32nd Ordinary Congress of the GFA brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting the administration, development and future direction of football in Ghana.
