Basake Holy Stars returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion after defeating 10-man Aduana FC 2-0 at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Sports Arena in Ampain on Wednesday in Week 30 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The victory extends Holy Stars’ incredible home record to 11 consecutive wins and serves as the perfect response following back-to-back defeats to Nations FC and FC Samartex 1996.
Aduana FC’s task became even more difficult in the 21st minute when defender Samuel Kuffour received a straight red card for a cynical challenge on Prince Tweneboah, leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb for the remainder of the encounter.
With the numerical advantage, Basake Holy Stars gradually took control of the game and were rewarded in the 35th minute after Jacob Boazee calmly converted from the penalty spot to hand the hosts a deserved lead.
The Ampain-based side continued to dominate proceedings after the break, pinning Aduana FC deep inside their own half while creating several dangerous attacking opportunities.
Prince Tweneboah, who was a constant menace to the Aduana defence throughout the game, eventually got his name on the scoresheet in the 84th minute with a composed finish to seal an impressive victory for the hosts.
The result moves Basake Holy Stars to 9th place on the league table with 43 points, while Aduana FC drop to 6th with 46 points as their title hopes suffer another major setback.
Aduana FC will now shift attention to their next fixture against Hearts of Oak in Accra, while Holy Stars prepare for a crucial clash against league leaders Medeama SC in Ampain.
