The Ultimate Voice of Western Region has declared its full support for the upcoming demonstration by the Concerned Youth of Nzema, scheduled for February 5, 2025. The protest is aimed at demanding the removal of Dr. Ben Asante as CEO of Ghana Gas Company Limited and advocating for the appointment of an Nzema indigene to the position.
In a press release signed by its President, Anthony Morkeh, and General Secretary, Bernabeth Ackah Kokochie, the group criticized Dr. Asante’s continued tenure beyond the legally prescribed retirement age, arguing that his prolonged leadership—following two successive tenure extensions—was both “anomalous and untenable.”
The statement further called on His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a “competent, qualified, and deserving individual of Nzema descent” to lead Ghana Gas. The group emphasized that this demand is not merely for regional representation but a step towards promoting “equity, inclusivity, and strategic national development.”
The Ultimate Voice of Western Region urged the government to act swiftly in addressing the concerns of Nzema youth to prevent disruptions to vital operations at Ghana Gas. They reiterated their commitment to advocating for just leadership, equitable opportunities, and the rightful recognition of Nzema’s contributions to Ghana’s energy sector.
The demonstration is expected to commence at 9:00 AM from Alla-Bokazo to the Gas Complex, with security personnel requested to ensure order during the event.
