The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested 14 persons for allegedly cultivating and distributing narcotic drugs at Daliga in the Nabdam District.
The suspects were arrested on Sunday, August 16, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation aimed at disrupting the cultivation and distribution of illicit drugs in the area.
The suspects have been identified as Alex Nyaaba, 63; Charles Kolog Dombil, 30; Jenifer Ziimi, 30; Ziimi Pandan, 45; Tobire Naab, 70; Yinteng James, 59; Sandenab Peelim, 35; Abane Zamgbeog, 48; Borimi Nahou, 29; Tobil Wandabil, 27; Furimi Nabdok, 29; Nahou Dogobila, 41; Gurimi Teng, 26; and Gurimi Kugeri, 20.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Upper East Regional Police Command and signed by Chief Inspector Abdul-Raman Sumaila, the operation resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of suspected narcotic drugs concealed in sacks.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected Indian hemp, popularly known as ‘wee’, was being cultivated alongside millet and maize.
The Police believe the practice was intended to conceal the illicit farms and enable the cultivators to evade detection.
The suspects are also believed to be major suppliers of narcotic drugs to several drug peddlers operating across the Upper East Region.
The arrests form part of efforts by the Upper East Regional Police Command to dismantle networks involved in the cultivation, distribution and supply of narcotic drugs in the region.
The Police said the suspects are currently in custody and will be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law.

The Command has meanwhile reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led operations to combat drug-related activities and disrupt the networks facilitating the circulation of narcotics in the region.
