The Awulae Blay IX Foundation has intensified its commitment to educational advancement with the launch of the second edition of its scholarship support initiative, targeting brilliant but financially disadvantaged students who have successfully completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and are preparing to commence secondary education for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The initiative, championed by HRM Awulae Blay IX, King and Overlord of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council, is designed to alleviate some of the financial exigencies associated with the transition from basic education to the secondary level.
The Foundation’s intervention seeks not only to mitigate the economic pressures confronting beneficiary families but also to foster an enabling environment in which academically promising students can pursue their educational aspirations without being unduly constrained by financial limitations.
The inaugural edition of the programme benefited more than 60 students last year, providing them with essential educational and residential items to facilitate their transition into secondary school.
Buoyed by the impact of the maiden edition, the Foundation has renewed the intervention for a second consecutive year, reaffirming its resolve to invest in the intellectual development and future prospects of young people within the community.
Under the latest scholarship support package, selected beneficiaries will receive a metal trunk, wooden chop box, student mattress, pillow and mosquito net.
The items have been carefully selected to cater to some of the fundamental needs of students who will be leaving their homes to pursue secondary education, particularly those enrolled in boarding institutions.
The transition to secondary school often imposes considerable financial obligations on parents and guardians, with the acquisition of bedding, storage facilities and other basic necessities adding to the already substantial cost of education.
Against this backdrop, the Foundation’s intervention is expected to provide meaningful financial relief to beneficiary families while equipping students with some of the essential requirements needed to commence their secondary education.
