MoMAG lauds Bawumia’s call for MoMo interoperability across Africa

The Mobile Money Advocacy Group, Ghana (MoMAG), has hailed the Vice President for calling on leaders on the continent to focus on creating the digital infrastructure necessary for mobile money transaction across the region.

The Advocacy Group says the initiative, if implemented, will put their business at a higher pedestal.

The Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on the opening day of the APN Continental Mobile Interoperability Symposium in Accra Friday, July 05, 2024, made a call to leaders across the continent to consider the initiative.

In its reaction, the Group is saying the implementation of the idea, if accepted by all, will go a long way to foster the vision of pushing for a cashless economy.

However, MOMAG says the success of the mobile money business rests on the thousands of its MoMo agents across the country who are facing a number of challenges.

“Limited network coverage and connectivity issues, high commission fees that eat into profits, limited access to funding and capital”, are among the major challenges the Group wants authorities to intervene, to ensure sustainability of the industry.
