Daniel Tuffour, the former Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) student standing trial over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani, made a fresh appearance before the court on Tuesday as the case continues.
The proceedings form part of the ongoing trial into the death of Joana Yabani, whose body was discovered on February 27, 2025, near the Disability and Rehabilitation Centre on the KNUST campus in Kumasi.
The case, which has attracted widespread public interest, was adjourned after Tuesday’s sitting, with the court expected to continue hearing the matter on a later date.
Daniel Tuffour was arrested and charged following investigations into the incident. The prosecution and defence are continuing to present their respective cases before the court.
No judgment was delivered during the latest hearing, and the trial remains ongoing.
The death of Joana Yabani sparked nationwide reactions, particularly within the KNUST community, where students and stakeholders called for justice and enhanced security on university campuses.
Under Ghanaian law, Daniel Tuffour is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
