I was threatened after I performed ‘Thief President’ at Nkrumahfest ’24 – Blakk Rasta

Host of Urban Blend on Accra-based 3FM and Reggae Musician, Abubakar Ahmed (Blakk Rasta) has revealed that he received threats against his life after his performance at the recent Journey to Nkroful- Nkrumahfest 24 concert.

His performance at the Nkrumahfest concert held in Ellembelle in the Western Region on September 21 eulogised Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah for his immense contribution to Ghana’s development.

However, at the end of his performance Blakk Rasta took a swipe at African leaders for their ‘poor leadership’ in his song titled ‘Thief President’.

The radio presenter in an interview on 3FM Drive on Wednesday, September 25 told Giovani Caleb that he received threats after his performance.

“After I did the song, I was just on my way out and I said I didn’t intend to give the song here because I intended to come and give a speech but they were insisting that I should sing something.

“So, when I sang it by evening it was all over the place. For me it’s a wake-up call for all our African leaders. If you are a thief, then change.

“I got a couple of calls after that. People called me with non-existing numbers (threatening me). So, the organizers beefed up my security at my hotel,” he stated.

He noted that the song was not directed at a particular sitting President but was directed to all Presidents ruling with greed and corruption.

“Not at all. If you look at the video, there’s a lot of African leaders. There’s President Akufo-Addo, there’s President Yoweri Museveni, it was just Presidents. It’s not for me to tell you who is a thief and who is not a thief.

“In every country, I believe that they know who is not threatening them well as their President so if the cap fits you, must wear it,” he clarified.
