Tamale High Court to deliver judgment in NDA corruption trial today

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that the Tamale High Court (Criminal Division) is set to deliver judgment today in the long-running trial involving former officials of the Northern Development Authority (NDA) and others.

The OSP disclosed this in a Facebook post on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

The case, The Republic v. Sumaila Abdul-Rahman & 3 Others, has spanned nearly four years and involves four accused persons, including Sumaila Abdul-Rahman, a former Chief Executive Officer of the NDA, alongside Stephen Yir-Eru Engmen, Patrick Seidu, and Andrew Kuundaari.

They are facing charges of corruption and related offences linked to procurement activities under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

During proceedings, the accused filed a submission of no case, arguing that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case.

However, the trial court dismissed the application a decision later upheld unanimously by the Court of Appeal.

With the defence having closed its case and final submissions filed, the court fixed April 23, 2026, for judgment.

The outcome is expected to bring closure to one of the high-profile corruption cases pursued by the OSP, attracting significant public interest.

However, recent developments, including a High Court ruling on the prosecutorial powers of the OSP and a pending case before the Supreme Court, could potentially influence the final outcome.
