St. Augustine’s College Refutes Claims of Food Shortage

Cape Coast, Ghana – 24th November 2024

St. Augustine’s College, a prestigious educational institution in Cape Coast, has issued an official statement addressing recent claims of food shortages affecting students. According to a communique signed by the Headmaster, Rev. Fr. Patrick-Godfred Appiah, the allegations of students facing inadequate meals due to a lack of food are “unfounded and untrue.”

The statement emphasized that the College has consistently maintained a well-stocked inventory of food supplies. Between the 4th and 21st of November 2024, the school received several deliveries of food items from the National Buffer Stock Company, ensuring sufficient provisions to meet students’ needs.

In light of recent industrial actions by the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the school commended its kitchen staff for their unwavering commitment to preparing meals for students despite the strike. This dedication was further acknowledged during a visit by the Central Regional Director of Education on 20th November, who encouraged the matron and her team to sustain their efforts.

St. Augustine’s College expressed gratitude to the government for its continuous support under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, which has significantly contributed to the institution’s ability to provide for its students. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inviting stakeholders and concerned individuals to visit the school for firsthand information regarding the food situation.

This public clarification seeks to restore confidence among parents, students, and the general public while highlighting the College’s proactive measures to ensure student welfare amidst challenges.

For further inquiries, stakeholders are encouraged to contact the school directly.
