Nana Bonya Kofi VI, Chief of Basake, joined the race for a seat on the Western Region’s Council of State during the elections held at the RCC Conference Hall in Sekondi. The much-anticipated election, which saw nine candidates vying for the position, ended with Maxwell Boakye emerging victorious with 17 votes out of the total 28 valid votes cast.
Nana Bonya Kofi VI, a respected traditional leader from Basake, contested in the election but did not receive any votes. Despite this outcome, his participation in the election highlights the growing involvement of traditional authorities in governance and their continued interest in representing their people at the national level.
According to the results declared by the presiding officer, Joshua Ofori-Prempeh, the total number of ballots issued was 28, with no rejected ballots. The final results were as follows:

• Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah – 10 votes
• Adjei Clement – 1 vote
• Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba II – 0 votes
• Nana Nkanomako IV – 0 votes

• Morttey Ernest Selorm – 0 votes
• Jacob Oppon-Acquah – 0 votes
• Mohammed Danjumah Alhassan – 0 votes
In his declaration speech, the presiding officer affirmed that the election was conducted transparently and without incidents.
While Nana Bonya Kofi VI did not secure a seat, his willingness to contribute to the governance of the Western Region and beyond is commendable and reflects his dedication to the progress and development of his community.
The Council of State plays an advisory role to the President of Ghana, and its members are selected from across the country to provide diverse perspectives on national issues.
