President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to Ghanaians to once again participate in the nationwide clean-up exercise as the campaign enters its second day, describing environmental sanitation as a shared national responsibility.
In a Facebook post after Saturday’s exercise, the President expressed gratitude to citizens who turned out in their numbers to support the initiative and encouraged them to maintain the momentum.
“Thank you for coming out today. Let’s do this again tomorrow. It is our collective responsibility to keep our communities clean. We must all step out of our homes tomorrow and Get Involved!” he wrote.
President Mahama also tasked Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with ensuring that debris removed from drains and refuse collected from homes are promptly evacuated to maximise the impact of the exercise.
“I expect the MMDAs to clear the debris we are clearing from the drains and the rubbish residents are sweeping out of their homes,” he stated.
The President further called on Ghanaians to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, cautioning against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage systems.
According to him, drains should not be used as dumping sites, urging residents to dispose of waste through appropriate channels to help reduce flooding and improve sanitation.
“We must change our attitude and stop the reckless dumping of waste into our drains. Drains are not dumping grounds. When we have waste to dispose of, we must do so responsibly,” he stressed.
Reiterating his appeal, President Mahama urged citizens across the country to come out once again and support the campaign.
“Tomorrow, we go again. Get Involved!” he added.
The nationwide clean-up exercise forms part of the government’s #ResettingGhana agenda, which seeks to improve environmental sanitation, promote public health, and encourage greater civic responsibility among citizens.
