The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has refuted reports suggesting it was the victim of an alleged GH¢308,000 theft involving a National Service Person attached to the Authority.
According to the DVLA, the money at the centre of the ongoing investigation does not belong to the Authority and was not stolen from any of its accounts.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 7, the Authority said reports linking the alleged theft to its finances are inaccurate and misleading.
“The Authority wishes to categorically state that the alleged GH¢308,000 involved in the matter does not belong to the DVLA and was not stolen from the Authority or any of its accounts,” the statement said.

The clarification follows media reports alleging that a National Service Person serving at the DVLA stole GH¢308,000 and allegedly used part of the money to purchase a Hyundai Elantra saloon car, a 50-inch Samsung television and to pay a sibling’s school fees.
The DVLA explained that the matter under investigation is a private dispute involving an individual serving under the National Service Scheme and is unrelated to the Authority’s operations or finances.
It stressed that the institution has not suffered any financial loss in connection with the case.
According to the Authority, although the suspect is attached to the DVLA, the alleged offence has no link to its official activities.
“The alleged offence is not connected to the operations, finances or official activities of the Authority but rather concerns two different individuals. It is therefore inaccurate and misleading to portray the incident in a manner that suggests the Authority was the victim of the alleged theft,” the statement added.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and integrity, while expressing confidence in the due process of the law.
It also assured the public of its full cooperation with the Ghana Police Service should its assistance be required as investigations continue.
