Concerned Ellembelle Assembly Members, a group of Ellembelle District Assembly members in the Western Region, have urged the Auditor General to look into allegations of financial irregularities and abuse of power against Kwasi Bonzoh, the District Chief Executive of Ellembelle, who was also the district finance officer and former coordinating director.
Speaking to reporters, Paul Kodwo Kwaw, the spokesperson for the concerned Ellembelle Assembly members and a member of the Kikam Assembly, accused the DCE and his staff of abusing the assembly’s funds from January 2024 to the present without the Ellembelle District General Assembly’s consent. This violates section 117, sub-section 1 of the Local Government Act of 2016, Act 936, and needs to be looked into.
“Abuse of office and the disregard of the standing orders in the Local Government Act 2016, Act 936, which regulates how the Assembly is managed, and disregard of the financial regulations enacted by Parliament led by the DCE of Ellembelle, Kwesi Bonzoh, who is currently using the logistics and revenue of the Assembly for his personal political ambition, under the guise of so-called community engagement.
“We call on the presiding member to institute a commission of inquiry immediately investigate Kwasi Bonzoh, District Finance Officer and former Coordinating Director into the spending of the revenue received in January 2024 to date.”
