Following the general elections on December 7, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the nation’s security forces to act swiftly to stop the growing number of lawless acts.
Alleged National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizers have reportedly broken into a number of governmental agencies, looting offices and caused chaos.
In a national address on Tuesday, December 10, Mahama condemned these acts of vandalism and lawlessness, calling for an immediate end to the attacks on state offices and installations.
“These actions are unacceptable and must stop immediately. I urge the President and the security agencies to act swiftly to restore law and order,” Mahama stated.
He further appealed for calm, urging all citizens to respect the rule of law during this critical transition period.
“I’ve received reports of attacks on state offices and installations. While it’s unclear who is behind these attacks, I condemn them in no uncertain terms. These acts must cease immediately,” Mahama stated.
He emphasised the importance of channelling frustration and anger into positive efforts to rebuild the nation.
“As I said during my post-declaration speech, I urge the youth not to vent their frustration in criminal enterprise. Instead, they must channel their anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding our beloved nation,” he added.
Mahama urged everyone to stay in calm and refrain from taking any acts that would endanger democracy and institutions.
He emphasized the necessity of solidarity and a dedication to peacefully reconstructing Ghana. “We have put a lot of effort into bringing about change, and now is the moment to show that we are dedicated to working together to construct the Ghana we desire. He pointed out that the current administration still controls state authority.
