The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana has sounded a strong warning following the sharp escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, urging Ghanaian citizens to exercise utmost caution and refrain from all non-essential travel to the affected region.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry pointed to ongoing coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel on targets within Iran, as well as reported retaliatory measures by Iran against U.S. and Israeli-linked assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The intensifying conflict has already led to airspace closures, significant flight disruptions, and heightened security alerts across the region.
Government officials have called on all involved parties to demonstrate restraint and return to diplomatic engagement, stressing the urgent need to safeguard human lives, preserve economic stability, and promote enduring regional peace.
Ghanaian nationals residing in or travelling through the affected countries have been strongly advised to remain indoors, strictly adhere to directives issued by local authorities, avoid large public gatherings, and maintain a high level of vigilance. Emergency preparedness protocols have been activated, with authorities conducting ongoing assessments regarding the possible evacuation of citizens where necessary.
The Ministry confirmed that preliminary steps have already been taken, including the evacuation of some staff from Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran, while essential personnel remain on the ground to continue providing assistance to nationals still in Iran.
Ghana’s diplomatic missions across the Middle East remain on heightened alert and ready to offer consular support. Citizens requiring urgent assistance are encouraged to contact the designated embassy and mission hotlines in Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran.
