In a statement, the Tarkwa-based club described the collaboration as the beginning of a bold new era driven by ambition, innovation and excellence.

Medeama clinch 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title with emphatic win over Heart of Lions

Medeama SC have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League after a resounding 5-2 victory over Heart of Lions at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday.

The emphatic win sealed the title for the Tarkwa-based side with a game to spare, as they delivered a dominant performance in front of their home supporters.

Kelvin Obeng and Derrick Fordjour both scored twice, while Prince Owusu added the fifth goal in a commanding display that underlined Medeama’s superiority in the closing stages of the season.

The result moved the Mauve and Yellow five points clear at the top of the table, confirming their second league title and their first since the 2022/23 season.

Medeama’s title triumph was also aided by events elsewhere, where Dreams FC defeated Bibiani Gold Stars 3-1 at the Tuba Astro Turf to end their title hopes.

Suraj Seidu scored a brace for Dreams FC, with Jonathan Nemorden also on the scoresheet. Gold Stars, however, ended the match with nine men after red cards to Richard Kotey, Kelvin Oppong, and Bright Boakye.

The defeat effectively handed Medeama the championship, as Gold Stars were unable to maintain their challenge in the final stretch of the season.

Elsewhere, Aduana FC boosted their top-four ambitions with a 3-1 win over Young Apostles, while FC Samartex edged Hearts of Oak 1-0 courtesy of Gabriel Osei’s second-half strike.

Bechem United confirmed their Premier League status with a 3-1 victory over Asante Kotoko, with Augustine Okrah scoring twice against his former club.

Vision FC strengthened their survival hopes with a narrow 1-0 win over Nations FC, while Berekum Chelsea recorded a 2-0 victory over Eleven Wonders.

With the title now decided, attention turns to the final day of the season, where battles for top-four places and relegation survival are expected to go down to the wire.

TRANSFER NEWS: Former Accra Lions Midfielder Fuzy Taylor Inks Three-year Contract With Medeama SC

Medeama Sporting Club has announce the capture of highly-rated midfielder, Fuzy Taylor on a three-year deal from Koowa Naso FC.

The talented 17-year old robust midfielder, who can also operate as a right-back, joins the Mauve and Yellows as part of the club’s squad-strengthening plan ahead of the 2025/26 football season.

Taylor rose to prominence at Accra Lions, where he was a key figure in midfield until the club’s unfortunate relegation. His impressive displays caught the eye of several top-tier clubs, but it was Koowa Naso FC who secured his card before being released to the Mauve and Yellows.

After a short spell with Koowa Naso, Taylor now takes the next step in his career with a move to the former Ghana Premier League champions.

The dynamic midfielder is known for his energy, technical ability, and tactical discipline, providing Medeama SC with additional depth and flexibility across the midfield and right flank.

Shocking As15-year old Boy Reportedly Dies By Suicide In Police Cell. Read Full Story

At the Simpa Police Station in Tarkwa, Western Region, a 15-year-old boy named Simon Obeng is said to have committed suicide while in police custody.

Due to allegations of police misconduct, his family is calling for a thorough investigation. Simon was detained last Thursday on suspicion of embezzling gold from his boss.

Police said he reportedly hanged himself and was discovered dead in his cell on Sunday. Authorities said that his family was informed right away.

Family members, however, have voiced serious concerns regarding the circumstances of his passing.

“On Saturday, we went to the police station to bail our relation, but the officer in charge said it was too late and asked us to return the next day,” his brother told Empire News.

“He also told us Simon had been moved to another cell, so we couldn’t see him. We waited until Sunday, only to receive a call that he had committed suicide. But I don’t believe that. There were no signs suggesting he would take his own life. We suspect foul play and believe the officers know more than they’re saying,” he added.

Akua Atta, Simon’s mother, also questioned why her son was not granted bail, following the release of another individual who was arrested with him.

“What I find suspicious is that someone who was arrested with my son was granted bail, but my son wasn’t,” she said. “I’m pleading with the government and the appropriate authorities to investigate this matter. I need to know what really happened to my son.”

The Ghana Police Service responded by announcing an internal investigation into the incident and promising the public openness and professionalism all along the way.

The boy’s age is another issue that is becoming more and more contentious. Simon’s parents maintain he was 15 years old, despite the police claiming he stated in his formal statement that he was 18.

  • Medeama SC Set To End Marriage with Former Karela Talisman

Medeama SC Set To End Marriage with Former Karela Talisman

Tarkwa-based Ghana Premier League outfits, Medeama Sporting Club are set to part ways with highly-rated striker, Diawise Taylor at the end of the 2024/25 domestic season.

The former Ghana Premier League topscorer joined the Mauve and Yellows as a marquee signing in January 2024, returning to his homeland after a substandard spell abroad. However his home coming has failed to live up to the billings, with injuries and inconsistent form thwarting his performance.

Despite his reputation and a husky wage package, the former Bibiani Gold Stars prodigy has performed abysmally for the former Ghana Premier League Champions. Reports within confirms the attacker is part of the players set to be overhauled at the end of the season.

Medeama, who competed in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League, had high hopes for Taylor’s signing, but the forward has struggled to replicate the form that ones made him hotcake in the country.

The 25-year old rose to stardom during the 2019 Normalization Committee Special Cup and the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League with Karela United, where he clinched the golden boots with 10 and 18 goals respectively.

His exploits earned him a lucrative move to Egyptian top-flight newcomers Future FC in September 2021.

However, his time abroad was marred by limited opportunities and loan spells. He was shipped out to Sudanese giants Al Merreikh SC in January 2022, but failed to make a lasting impression there as well. Upon his return to Future FC in August 2022, his contract was mutually terminated a month later.

Before moving abroad, Taylor had netted 28 goals in 52 appearances in the Ghana Premier League.

Medeama’s decision to terminate his contract marks a disappointing chapter in Taylor’s once-promising career, and the striker will now be on the lookout for a new club as he aims to rediscover his form and rebuild his reputation.

  • Government to run Damang mine operations – Minerals Commission

Government to run Damang mine operations – Minerals Commission

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, (Small Scale and Industrial Minerals), Isaac Andrews Tandoh, has stated that the government is poised to run the operations of the Damang Gold Mine.

This comes after the Government announced his decision not to renew Gold Fields’ Damang mining lease, which expires on April 18, 2025.

Mr. Tandoh speaking on Citi Breakfast show, mentioned that several mines within Damang were largely operated by Ghanaians.

Although, claims that Ghanaians lack the technical know-how for the job were in accurate.

“In all the meetings I have been in and all the discussions I have had, we are looking at the state running the mine. No individual will be made to do that,” he said.

The whole of the Damang stretch is run by only one expatriate. In Tarkwa, Ghanaians are running the mines, and the same applies to Ahafo. So, the issue of human capacity or technical know-how is neither here nor there,” he added.

The decision not to renew the mining lease comes as the current 30-year old lease, originally granted on April 18,1995, is set to expire on April 18, 2025.

The Government has stated that this move aligns with it’s broader mission to reset the nations economic landscape.

A 2023 annual report by Gold Fields revealed that the mining in Damang ended in 2023 after the depletion of the Huni pits.

According to reports, the mine intended to process stockpiles until the end of 2025.

GFA release statement on Black Stars Technical Team after Road Accident

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to inform the general public that members of the Black Stars technical team were involved in a road accident earlier today while returning from Tarkwa. The team had been on an official assignment, observing the Champion of Champions clash between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC.

The vehicle carrying Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsil, and Goalkeepers Trainer Fatawu Dauda, a Land Cruiser with registration number GR 6521-21, avoided a head-on collision with a pickup truck which veered off into its lane with some damage to the vehicle.

We are happy to report that all three members of the technical team are in stable condition and will undergo further medical assessments, as a precautionary measure, upon their return to Accra.

We are confident that the technical team will be in good shape and ready to lead the Black Stars in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

We appreciate the concern shown by the public and ask for your continued support and prayers as we prepare for these important matches.
