Accra High Court Admits Abronye DC to GH¢100,000 Bail With Two Sureties

The Accra High Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.

The ruling was delivered on Thursday, May 21, 2026, following his earlier remand into custody by Circuit Court 9 in Accra over allegations of spreading false information.

Abronye DC’s legal team had challenged the remand order, arguing that his continued detention was unjustified and amounted to a breach of his rights. After hearing the motion, the High Court upheld the bail application.

His arrest and subsequent legal proceedings have drawn significant public and political attention, particularly after reports that he was initially granted bail during investigations before being re-arrested.

Prior to the High Court’s decision, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had criticised the handling of the case, describing the transfer of proceedings from Criminal Court Two to General Jurisdiction Two as “mind-boggling”.

The party further alleged that the procedural developments were aimed at frustrating the bail process, raising concerns over what it described as growing political intimidation against opposition figures.
