Owusu Ansah Joins Stephen Amankona, Kingsley Braye and Kwame Opoku as GPL Joint Top Scorers

Port City forward Owusu Ansah has ascended to the summit of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League scoring charts following his decisive brace against former club Karela United, taking his tally to four goals after eight rounds of matches.

The 20-year-old attacker delivered a clinical performance in Port City’s 2-1 victory over the Pride and Passion outfit at the Tamale Sports Stadium, drawing level with Aduana FC’s Stephen Amankona, Medeama SC’s Kingsley Braye and Bibiani Gold Stars marksman Kwame Opoku.

The quartet have each registered four goals, establishing themselves as the division’s leading marksmen as competition for the coveted Golden Boot intensifies.

Ansah’s emergence at the apex of the scoring standings is particularly impressive, having achieved the feat in just five appearances for Port City since making his debut in their 1-0 defeat to Medeama SC at the TnA Park.

The former Karela United and Chicago FC forward showcased his predatory instincts against his former employers, breaking the deadlock in the 71st minute before delivering a decisive intervention in the 90th minute to complete his brace.

Mahfuz Nyama had briefly restored parity for Karela United in the 85th minute, but Ansah’s late winner ultimately sealed maximum points for Port City.

The performance carried an intriguing personal dimension, given that Ansah honed his footballing credentials at Karela United’s academy during the club’s days in Nzema Aiyinasi.

His exceptional scoring efficiency and growing influence in Port City’s attacking department have propelled him into contention among the league’s most prolific forwards, reinforcing his burgeoning reputation in Ghanaian football.

With the campaign continuing to unfold, Ansah will be determined to sustain his impressive goalscoring trajectory and consolidate his position among the division’s elite marksmen, while his fellow contenders will seek to maintain their own scoring exploits in the race for individual supremacy.
