Hearts of Lions coach Bashir Hayford has been suspended for five games by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee.
This judgement comes in response to an incident that occurred during the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season, notably during the Karela United vs. Hearts of Lions match on Match Day 7 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
Hayford was convicted of unsporting behaviour towards referees.
According to the committee’s findings, Hayford verbally assaulted the officials, which is against the GFA’s stringent rules regarding professionalism and deference between officials, coaches, and players.
This move demonstrates the GFA’s dedication to upholding a civil and equitable atmosphere during every game.
In addition to the ban, Hayford will also be subject to a cash penalty of GHC 5,000.
The GFA reiterated its zero-tolerance attitude on unsporting behaviour in Ghanaian football and threatened to impose even harsher penalties on Hayford for any future misbehaviour.
