The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under fire from National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama for allegedly giving regional improvements priority based on their electoral support.
He contends that this strategy undercuts equal development nationwide by ignoring regions that did not support the NPP in elections.
On Monday, November 4, Mahama made these statements while on a tour of the Oti Region.
John Mahama addressed these worries by denouncing what he called regional inequalities in resource distribution and promising to give the Oti Region’s development top priority if he were elected president again.
He stated in Biakoye that President Akufo-Addo has accepted the possibility that his party may lose the next election.
“NPP failed to build the regional hospitals because Krachi East indigenes didn’t vote for them. NDC will uphold its promise to Krachi East in terms of infrastructure.”
The two-day tour of the Oti Region by the NDC presidential candidate started on Monday.
Chiefs and party members greeted him enthusiastically when he stopped in Dambai, Krachi East.
In light of the region’s lack of development, the Chief of Dambai, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, urged John Mahama to give development projects first priority if he is elected in the December elections.
“We are very grateful for the educational infrastructure you developed, which has helped us all these years. We also know you built smaller hospitals in Krachi but the people are making for a regional hospital. We want you to prioritise the regional hospital when voted into power.”
