In less than 24 hours, ECG replaces Dubik Mahama with a new managing director.

Samuel Dubik Mahama resigned from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Wednesday, September 25, and David Asamoah was named the company’s acting managing director.

Prior to this, Asamoah was the Deputy Managing Director overseeing Commercial Services. His new position is just temporary while the Government of Ghana, ECG’s sole shareholder, makes a decision.

Following a critical board meeting, Alexander Afenyo Markin, the ECG’s board chairman, announced the appointment.

Mr. Dubik Mahama expressed worries regarding the way ECG is run and what the minority in parliament perceived as the government’s slow signing of certain questionable contracts.

Following the resignation of Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), on Wednesday, September 25, the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has reiterated its demand for the board to be dissolved.

Mahama stepped down citing personal reasons. ACEP has consistently advocated for a complete overhaul of ECG’s management, particularly due to concerns over poor revenue collection from power sales.
