South African coach Rogério Paulo César De Sá is among the names being considered to join the Black Stars technical team as an assistant to head coach Carlos Queiroz.
After Queiroz’s appointment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), efforts are ongoing to put together a capable technical team to support him as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He is also expected to meet the media soon to outline his plans and role. According to reports, De Sá is close to finalizing an agreement to become part of the technical team.
Club Coaching Career
De Sá began his coaching career in 2001 with Bidvest Wits, where he worked for four years. In September 2012, he was named head coach of Orlando Pirates and later won the PSL Coach of the Season award.
In January 2017, he took over as manager of Maritzburg United but left the role in March. Later that year, in September, he was appointed head coach of Platinum Stars following the exit of Peter Butler.
He resigned in January 2014 and later joined Ajax Cape Town the same year. However, he stepped down after a poor start to the 2016/17 season.
International Coaching Career
De Sá has developed a long-standing working relationship with Carlos Queiroz over the years.
He served as a goalkeeping coach for South Africa during Queiroz’s time in charge. In September 2021, he joined Queiroz as assistant coach of the Egyptian national team.
He continued in that role with Queiroz at the 2022 FIFA World Cup while working with Iran.In early 2023, he was appointed coach of the Qatar national team, once again working alongside Queiroz.
In 2025, he coached Cape Town City before moving on to a role with the Oman national team.
If confirmed, De Sá’s addition is expected to strengthen the Black Stars technical team as preparations continue for upcoming FIFA World Cup.
