President John Dramani Mahama has appointed renowned media entrepreneur and public figure, Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally announced the appointment on March 1, 2026.
The Nigerian diplomatic post remains one of Ghana’s most strategic foreign missions, reflecting Nigeria’s stature as West Africa’s largest economy and a pivotal regional ally. The appointment emphasizes Ghana’s intent to further consolidate its longstanding political, economic and cultural relations with its eastern neighbour.
Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu transitions into diplomacy with an accomplished background in media and entertainment. He is widely recognised as the founder of 3 Media Networks, the creative powerhouse behind the prestigious 3Music Awards and several groundbreaking initiatives that have significantly influenced Ghana’s urban music and entertainment ecosystem. His leadership in digital media and pan-African entertainment platforms has earned him continental acclaim for championing creative industry development.
His nomination comes at a critical moment as Ghana seeks to deepen bilateral cooperation with Nigeria in key areas including trade, migration management, regional security and economic integration. The High Commissioner plays a central role in advancing these priorities, fostering diplomatic engagement, and strengthening cross-border partnerships.
The appointment follows the recall of Ghana’s previous High Commissioner Baba Jamal Mohammad in February 2026, a development that attracted notable public interest given the rarity of such diplomatic transitions.
Upon successful completion of the requisite diplomatic accreditation processes, Abu will assume responsibility for overseeing Ghana’s High Commission in Abuja. His mandate will include promoting Ghanaian trade and investment interests, enhancing bilateral diplomacy, and safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaians residing in Nigeria through efficient consular services.
The Ghana High Commission in Nigeria provides essential services including passport and visa processing, consular assistance, and active engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora community.
Ghana and Nigeria continue to maintain robust ties anchored in shared membership within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), collaborative regional security initiatives, and sustained efforts toward economic cooperation and integration.
