Inaki Williams wins back-to-back Laliga Africa’s Most Valuable Player award

Black Stars winger Inaki Williams has been crowned Sporty LaLiga’s Africa’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season, solidifying his position as one of Africa’s brightest football talents. Williams received the prestigious award in Spain for the 2024/25 season, edging out Villarreal’s Pape Gueye and Osasuna’s Enzo Boyomo. This historic win marks the first time a player has won the award back-to-back, showcasing Williams’ consistency and exceptional skill on the pitch.

Williams’ standout season was marked by impressive performances for Athletic Bilbao, where he contributed six goals and eight assists in 35 league appearances. His electric pace, precise dribbling, and ability to create scoring opportunities have been pivotal for the Basque side, driving their attacking play and securing their first Champions League spot in a decade. Williams played more minutes than any other player in the squad, underscoring his importance to the team’s success.

Inaki Williams switched his nationality to feature for Ghana in 2022 and has since become a key player for the Black Stars. Despite being left out of Ghana’s 23-man squad for the 2025 Unity Cup in London, England, Williams’ achievements serve as an inspiration to young African footballers. Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, plans to use the four-nation tournament to evaluate new talent ahead of future competitions.

The award is a testament to Williams’ hard work and dedication to the sport. As the first repeat winner in Sporty LaLiga MVP history, he follows in the footsteps of Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze and Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, who won the award in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
