Omane Boamah warns against ‘criminal mistakes’ in voter register handling

The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Director of Elections, Dr. Omane Boamah, has reacted to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) claim that it won’t fake the voter registration.

On Monday, September 2, the Electoral Commission vehemently refuted claims that it had tallied voter lists in order to assist a specific political party in the forthcoming elections of 2024.

In charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the EC, underlined that the commission has no plans to manipulate the registration in order to benefit any one political party.

In a Facebook post, Dr Omane Boamah questioned Ghana’s electoral integrity in light of these circumstances.

He voiced worries about rumours that the Pusiga district office of the EC had transferred people without following the proper procedures, raising questions about the validity of the voter registration.

Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized that “horrible, crooked, and criminal mistakes” are unacceptable even if she acknowledged that reasonable mistakes sometimes occur.

“If the register is credible, why did the Deputy Chairman state that Pusiga was able to transfer people without recourse to the process? No intention to rig by EC?

“We cannot go into the heads of the top EC officials… Wisdom from Macbeth: “There’s no art to find the mind’s construction in the face. Ghana’s pedigree in elections was not built on the current track record. The EC has a lot to hide! 35 unanswered questions about stolen/missing BVR and BVD kits. Human endeavour… bound to be mistaken?

“Reasonable mistakes can be understood but not terrible crooked and criminal mistakes! How could a District Officer transfer voters without their knowledge? How many more are hiding?”

The NDC’s Director of Elections requested that the Electoral Commission offer a thorough justification for the circumstances surrounding the Director’s interdiction at PUSIGA.

In order to protect the integrity of the election process, he is also advocating for the continuance of repairs, re-exhibition, and forensic auditing.

“EC must fully explain what transpired at PUSIGA that led to the Director’s interdiction. Corrections must continue. RE-EXHIBITION is non-negotiable! Forensic audit is non-negotiable!”

INITIAL RESPONSE TO THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION’S JUST-ENDED PRESS CONFERENCE

The humiliating display of incompetence by the Electoral Commission of Ghana

The Electoral Commission has admitted their data management is not only poor but incurably pathetic if external assistance is not injected urgently.

EC, you did not willingly give out the 2024 PVR timeously…. we dragged it out of you!

How could the EC describe the register that has not been corrected as “robust and credible”?

If the register is credible, why did the Deputy Chairman state that Pusiga was able to transfer people without recourse to the process?

No intention to rig by EC?

We can not go into the heads of the top EC officials… Wisdom from Macbeth: “There’s no art to find the mind’s construction in the face.”

Ghana’s pedigree in elections was not built on the current track record.

The EC has a lot to hide! 35 unanswered questions about stolen/missing BVR and BVD kits.

Human endeavor… bound to be mistakes?

Reasonable mistakes can be understood but not terrible crooked and criminal mistakes!

How could a District Officer transfer voters without their knowledge? How many more are hiding?

Recommendations

Because many EC Regional Directors and District Electoral Officers are aware this register is not credible, we demand the following:

1. EC must fully explain what transpired at PUSIGA that led to the Director’s interdiction.

2. Corrections must continue.

3. RE-EXHIBITION is non-negotiable!

4. Forensic audit is non-negotiable!
