A strong fire in Kasoa, Awutu Senya East Municipality, has burned a number of container shops along the Ghana Flag area on the Obom stretch.

Reports state that while responding to the incident, a fire tender from Weija that had been sent to help contain the fire caught fire as well.

Luckily, the firefighters controlled the situation and kept the tender from catching fire in its whole.

The firefighting team successfully contained the blaze, stopping it from spreading to nearby shops. To prevent further damage, the entire Obom area has been disconnected from the national grid by officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana.

Emelia Sakpo, one of the shop owners affected, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating she was caught completely off guard by the fire.

“I just bought some assorted drinks and other items into my shop just yesterday and today the whole shop has been razed down. I am surprised by the incident and never expected to see my shop razed down. I am completely helpless because I took a loan from the bank to establish this business.

“I am not the only person who has been affected, several other traders have also been affected,” Emelia Sakpo asserted

Just last week several shops at the Kasoa New Market were razed down by fire destroying several properties amounting to millions of Ghana cedis.

However, officials from the Ghana National Fire Service are still in the area trying to ensure that the situation is completely managed.
