A Ghanaian man who lost his wife at Ridge Hospital in Accra owing to what was allegedly negligence has won a lawsuit against the hospital and received GHC $3 million in damages.
Akua Nyarko Osei-Bonsu, the wife of Mohammed Mustapha, passed away in 2019 just before she was due to give birth at the hospital.
She was scheduled for a caesarean section (CS), but during the procedure, she became ill with thromboembolism, which ultimately resulted in her death and the death of her unborn child.
Mustapha claims that once the hospital determined that his wife was in danger, they asked him to purchase certain medications, which he did; nonetheless, his wife never received the medication.
His legal team effectively claimed in court that his wife’s death was directly caused by the hospital’s failure.
The plaintiff was consequently granted damages of GHC 3 million cedis by the Accra High Court, which was hearing the case.
