‘Fulfill your campaign promises’ – Bernard Mornah reminds President-elect Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, has received congratulations from Mr. Bernard Mornah, the People’s National Convention’s (PNC) defeated presidential candidate in the 2024 general election, on his win in the recently concluded general election.

Ghana’s President-elect is Mr. Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson and Returning Officer, Mrs. Jean Mensah.

In 267 of the 276 constituencies, Mr. Mahama received 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55 percent of the legitimate votes cast, while Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61 percent.

As he congratulated Mr. Mahama, Mr. Mornah reminded the president-elect of his “mouth-watering” campaign pledges, which helped him secure the victory.

He listed a few of these, including starting an operation to retrieve all plunder, doing rid of some harmful levies like the E-levy and betting tax, and providing Ghanaians with decent governance.

In response to Mr. Mahama’s resounding victory in the general election of 2024, Mr. Mornah made these remarks while speaking to the media in Sankana, in the Nadowli-Kaleo District.

“As we congratulate John Dramani Mahama on his victory, we need to remind him that the people of Ghana did not just vote for him because it was a matter of course.

We want to remind them that it’s these promises the people of Ghana took seriously and we expect that they will manifest them as they are in government”, he stated.

Mr Mornah also commended Vice President Dr. Bawumia for his early concession of victory to Mr Mahama, which had calmed tension and reduced the tendency of people causing election-violence.

“His quick acceptance and concession of defeat to John Dramani Mahama calmed tensions and probably took the nation away from the brink of people’s anger”, he said, adding that “Democracy in Ghana has matured”.

Additionally, Mr. Mornah praised the PNC fraternity for their steadfast support of the NDC and its presidential candidate, which helped Mr. Mahama win the election after the EC disqualified the PNC from running for president.

According to the political activist, Mr. Mahama should “deliver” Ghanaians from their current economic predicament.
