After serving from 2017 to 2021, Donald Trump has accumulated more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win a second term in the White House.
Trump has been officially declared the winner of the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Following predictions that he would win key battleground states including Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, Trump mounted the stage early on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, to announce his triumph. His return to the presidency was solidified shortly after when the Associated Press portrayed Wisconsin in his favour.
“We made history for a reason tonight, and that reason is overcoming obstacles no one thought possible,” he said, calling it “the most incredible political achievement.”
Trump’s triumph seemed assured after victories in these crucial states.
“It’s real!” said a young fan, who hurried to the front of the crowd and enthusiastically gave friends and strangers high fives.
Family members, including son-in-law Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka, who had not been present for much of the campaign, as well as aides and supporters, joined Trump in thanking his supporters and promising a great future for the nation.
On November 5, polls nationwide closed, and the voting process went smoothly generally. For a candidate to win the presidency, they must receive a minimum of 270 Electoral College votes.
Nevertheless, Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, has yet to accept her defeat.
