Hearts of Oak and Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says he remains focused on improving his game and will not allow criticism from the public to affect his confidence.
The shot-stopper, who made his debut for the Ghana national football team in March 2025, has since become the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Despite facing criticism from some supporters, Asare says he prefers to concentrate on his development and performance on the pitch.
Speaking to 3Sports, the goalkeeper explained that mistakes are part of life and should not define a player’s future. “I don’t worry about people’s opinion. Today I can make a mistake, but tomorrow I can achieve something great,” he said.
He added that his main focus is maintaining his current level with God’s guidance and continuing to improve. Asare also rejected claims that his rise to the national team happened suddenly, insisting that years of hard work and consistency at club level earned him the opportunity.
“Those who don’t know me may think I came from nowhere to the Black Stars,” he stated. The goalkeeper further stressed that decisions regarding player selection remain the responsibility of the technical team.
“Player appointment and goalkeeper selection are all the work of the coach,” he added.
Asare is currently part of Ghana’s squad preparing for an international friendly against Mexico national football team on May 22, 2026.He replaced Gidios Aseako of Dreams FC in the squad.
