Hajia Amina Adam Announces Bid for Ayawaso East Parliamentary Seat in Upcoming By-Election

Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Mahama Naser Toure, the former Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, has officially declared her intention to contest the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the constituency.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set the by-election for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, following the unfortunate death of the sitting MP, leaving the seat vacant.

In accordance with Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, the EC is mandated to organize a by-election whenever a parliamentary seat becomes vacant.

In a statement released on Thursday, January 22, Hajia Adam explained that her decision to enter the race was inspired by overwhelming support from constituents, party members, and local traditional leaders, all of whom urged her to carry on the legacy of her late husband.

She reflected on the dedicated service her late husband, Mahama Naser Toure, provided to the Ayawaso East Constituency and expressed her deep gratitude for the encouragement she has received from community leaders.

“There has been a resounding call from many within my constituency, as well as from outside, for me to step forward and continue the work my late husband began. After much thought and extensive consultations with elders and grassroots members, I have decided to heed this call to serve my people,” she shared.

Hajia Adam also acknowledged that this decision comes during a period of personal mourning, yet emphasized that she was motivated by the unwavering support and counsel from chiefs, imams, youth leaders, and other key figures within the constituency.

“I promise that I will not let them down,” she vowed.

In preparation for the by-election, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has outlined the guidelines for the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary in the Greater Accra Region.
