Asamoah Gyan Reveals Why He Chose Al Ain Over Returning to Sunderland

Former Ghana captain and all-time leading scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has opened up about his move from English side Sunderland to UAE giants Al Ain, shedding light on a pivotal moment in his illustrious career.

The former Udinese forward, Gyan revealed that Sunderland initially pushed for his departure. “It was Sunderland who asked me to leave because of the loan offer from Al Ain. They thought they could benefit from the deal, expecting me to go there temporarily and then return,” he said.

At first, Gyan admitted he had planned to follow that path. “That was my initial thought, take the loan and come back. But when I got to Al Ain, I immediately fell in love with the club and the players. That’s when I decided to activate the option to buy and make the move permanent,” he added.

Gyan’s decision proved transformative, not just for him but also for Al Ain, where his leadership and goal-scoring prowess became a cornerstone of the team’s success. The Ex-Rennes Poacher stated, the move wasn’t just about football; it was about connection, passion, and finding the right environment to thrive, a choice that ultimately shaped the next chapter of his remarkable career.
