The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has appealed to the youth of Bawku to shun actions that could undermine ongoing peacebuilding efforts in the region.
Addressing attendees at the 38th Annual Samampiid Festival in the Upper East Region, Nketia underscored the pivotal role of the younger generation in fostering lasting harmony.
Acknowledging the long-standing challenges facing Bawku, including ethnic tensions and recurrent violence, Nketia emphasized that the future of the area lies in the hands of its youth. He implored them to choose dialogue and development over conflict.
“To the youth of Kusaug, I speak to you directly. You are not foot soldiers of conflict, but architects of peace and partners in progress. Reject all forms of incitement, misinformation, and manipulation. Violence yields no victor; it deters investment and deprives communities of opportunities. Embrace dialogue, patience, and lawful avenues for redress,” Nketia stated.
The NDC Chairman further highlighted the power of unity and dialogue in resolving disputes. He noted that the Samampiid Festival, a major cultural celebration in Bawku, symbolizes the shared heritage of its diverse communities and offers a platform to nurture understanding and cooperation among young people.
“We must internalize the spirit of unity that the Samampiid Festival embodies. Let it remind us that peace is not merely an aspiration but a collective responsibility. Together, we can surmount our challenges and secure a brighter future for all,” he added.
The Chairman’s call to action resonates as a timely reminder that sustainable peace in Bawku hinges on the active engagement of its youth. This year’s festival, celebrated under the theme, “Effective Enforcement of Law and Order: The Key to Sustainable Peace in Kusaug,” reinforced the message that harmony and development go hand in hand.
