Seven family members perish in tragic fire at Akyempim

A terrible fire at Akyempim in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region claimed the lives of a family of seven. Early on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the incident took place.

The Dunkwa-On-Offin Fire Station got a distress call about a fire outbreak at 1:04 a.m., according to a statement released by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

When firefighters arrived at the scene at 1:20 a.m., they discovered that one of the four-bedroom residences was locked from the outside and totally consumed by flames.

By strategically containing the fire, the firefighters were able to stop it from spreading to the other three bedrooms. Nevertheless, it was impossible to save the seven people who were stuck inside.

Two adults and five children, ages one to fifteen, were among the victims who were confined to the sealed chamber. According to preliminary findings, one of the deceased women’s husbands allegedly locked the room after setting it on fire before running away.

The suspect was later discovered dead in a nearby thicket by police, with signs that he had committed suicide. The victims’ burnt bodies have been turned over to the Ghana Police Service to help with additional investigations, according to the GNFS.
