CAF Confederation Cup: Wydad Edge Kotoko in Dramatic First-Leg Clash

Wydad Athletic Club claimed a crucial first-leg win over Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko in the CAF Confederation Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium, a contest packed with goals, tension, and controversy.

The Moroccan outfits opened the scoring in the 47th minute through Congolese forward Joseph Bakasu, who finished off a well-worked attacking move with composure. Just two minutes later, the match took another twist as Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Kamara received a red card for handling the ball outside his area.

Kotoko’s hopes were briefly lifted when Morifing Donzo found the back of the net, but his strike was disallowed for offside, deepening the frustration for the Porcupine Warriors.

Despite playing with ten men, Kotoko showed resilience but were unable to find the equalizer, as Wydad held on to secure a narrow advantage ahead of the decisive return leg at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca-Morocco.
