Ghana Premier League: President Mahama to Grace Season Kickoff, Stonebwoy to Perform at Accra Sports Stadium

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, will on Friday, September 12, grace the grand kickoff of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Afro-dancehall and reggae musician Livingstone Etse Satekla (Stonebwoy) set to thrill football fans.

The season opener will begin with a curtain-raiser at 4:00 p.m. between the Black Starlets and Auroras FC, before the main fixture at 7:00 p.m., when Accra Hearts of Oak face newly promoted Hohoe United.

Hearts of Oak enter the campaign full of confidence after an unbeaten pre-season, bolstered by new signings. Their opponents, Hohoe United, will make history with their debut in the top flight, having earned promotion after finishing last season’s Division One League with 72 points.

Fans can also look forward to a live performance by Afro-dancehall star Stonebwoy, adding extra excitement to the night’s opening ceremony.

The Ghana Football Association has raised the stakes this season, with the league winner set to receive GHS 2 million, while the runners-up and third-place finishers will earn GHS 1 million and GHS 500,000 respectively.

The 2025/26 season will run from September 2025 to May 2026, with fixtures aligned to the FIFA international calendar.
