Withdraw ‘reckless’ Bawku Chieftaincy allegations – Mamprugu Youth to Ken Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, have been urged by the Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), Bawku Chapter, to take back remarks that claimed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia forced a rival chief on the Bawku people during an election period.

The group denounced the assertion as “reckless, malicious, and dangerous” in a statement released on Thursday, September 4, cautioning that it might further exacerbate the already tense Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

MAYA argued that the allegation, which it said was first circulated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 election campaign, was now being “shamelessly recycled” by Mr Agyapong and his team.

“It is disgraceful that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, who claimed to support the NPP candidate in that election, are now resurrecting the same propaganda,” the statement read.

Using the Bawku issue for political ends is never acceptable, the group emphasized, calling such behavior “a direct insult to the people of Bawku and the entire Mamprugu Kingdom.”

In order to avoid having to designate Mr. Agyapong’s campaign team persona non grata in the region, MAYA sought a complete and unconditional apology and retraction.

“We will not allow any individual, no matter how highly placed, to trade the peace of Bawku for political expediency. The future of our people is far more important than the desperation of politicians,” the group stated.

The Bawku Chapter of MAYA’s President, Seidu Awudu, and Secretary, Abdul Majeed Bagura, signed the statement.
