The Greater Accra Regional Police Command claims that during questioning, the main suspect in the alleged murder of an immigration officer has been providing contradictory statements.
The deceased, Stephen King Amoah, was allegedly lured into a meeting by Bright Aweh, 32, under the guise of resolving a financial issue before the officer was discovered dead.
The suspect told investigators that he provided the late officer GH₵500,000 to settle a debt and kept the rest for himself, according to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
But he hasn’t revealed where the funds came from. According to the police, on July 3, 2025, Aweh texted Amoah pictures of bundles of cash via WhatsApp and asked to meet with him at Ashongman Estate at approximately 8:00 p.m. to settle some financial issues.
Police claim that although Aweh later acknowledged giving the money to Amoah, his answers have been contradictory.
Sadly, the burned body of 38-year-old Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah was discovered in a gutter in Accra, across from Comet Estate, close to the GBC Satellite area. He had been reported missing on July 3.
Despite the extent of the burns, family members confirmed the identity of the deceased.
A group of Taifa Police investigators responded quickly to the missing person report and took the culprit into custody.
The public has been promised of a comprehensive inquiry and the Greater Accra Regional Police Command has denounced the murder.
Additionally, they are calling on members of the public to come forward with any information that could help with the current investigation.
