As part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining (galamsey), the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembele, Hon. Joseph Agyekum, has overseen the construction of a temporary barrier between Aiyinase and Nyamebekyere.
This pilot initiative aims to block unauthorized excavators from accessing vulnerable areas like Sendu, Aiyinase North, and surrounding communities.
The barrier is being vigilantly manned by a team of trained personnel selected from the Blue Water Guards.
Hon. Agyekum emphasized that this measure reflects the assembly’s phased and strategic approach to ensure sustainable results.
“We are committed to moving at our own pace to guarantee these interventions yield maximum impact,” the DCE stated. He further urged community support and collaboration with stakeholders to safeguard natural resources.

This action aligns with broader national efforts to combat galamsey led by Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
The Ellembele District Assembly plans to monitor the barrier’s effectiveness before scaling up similar measures.
