In a renewed effort to combat illegal mining and restore degraded lands, Hon. Joseph Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembelle, on Friday, April 25, 2025, led a high-level team on a strategic visit to key mining sites across Sendu, Sendu Fia Solo, Nkroful, and Anwia.
The purpose of the visit was twofold — to assess the current state of lands earmarked for reclamation and to gather firsthand information on alternative employment opportunities that could be offered to indigenes affected by illegal mining activities.
Hon. Joseph Agyekum was accompanied by Mr. Frank Asare, National Coordinator of the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP), and officials from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, led by Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
The visit forms part of broader national objectives to combat galamsey, reclaim environmentally degraded lands, and provide sustainable alternative livelihoods for affected communities.
