CJ’s suspension a threat to justice – Sammi Awuku

The suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has drawn severe criticism from Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, who described it as a concerning action intended to intimidate the judiciary.

In response to President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to suspend the Chief Justice after a prima facie case was established over three distinct petitions calling for her dismissal, Awuku made these remarks.

The MP for Akuapim North voiced concerns on Facebook that the dismissal of Justice Torkornoo will jeopardize judicial independence, which is essential to any flourishing democracy.

“This moment marks a concerning chapter in Ghana’s democratic journey,” he wrote.

Awuku went on to denounce President Mahama’s choice, calling it an instance of unbridled authority that would undermine the principles of justice.

“History reminds us that absolute power can erode the very foundations of justice,” he stressed.
