The newly appointed members of the Armed Forces Council were sworn in by President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, March 24, 2025.
The seven-member council will be chaired by Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the vice president.
Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defense; Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, the Minister of the Interior, are among the recently appointed members.
Nancy Dakwa Ampofo, Daniel Addo, and Fuseini Iddrisu are also members of the council.
The appointees are notable people with vast histories in public administration, security, and governance who were chosen from a variety of professional disciplines. They shall carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the council’s duty to give the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) administrative supervision and policy direction.
The Armed Forces Council is responsible for assuring the military’s effectiveness, adherence to democratic norms, and accountability to the civilian administration.
It is also required to supervise the welfare and discipline of military troops and advise the president on issues pertaining to national defense.
