His Excellency the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to addressing the devastating impact of tidal waves in coastal communities, promising to allocate funds for the completion of the Berekusu Sea Defence Project if elected in the 2024 elections.
In a post on Independence Day, Mahama revealed that he spent the afternoon with affected residents of Amutinu, Salakope, and Agavedzi, where he distributed food, relief items, and cash support to victims struggling with the disaster.
“Seeing the devastation reinforced my commitment to finding a long-term solution,” he stated. “I will instruct the finance minister to allocate funds in the 2025 budget for Phase Two of the Berekusu Sea Defence Project. We must protect these communities.”
Mahama also expressed disappointment over what he described as “shoddy work” on an ongoing resettlement housing project in one of the communities, emphasizing the need for quality interventions to support displaced residents.
His visit highlights the urgency of addressing coastal erosion and tidal wave destruction, a recurring challenge for communities along Ghana’s coastline.
