Plans to transport 5,000 Ghanaian pilgrims to Mecca for the Hajj this year have been revealed by President John Dramani Mahama.
President Mahama discussed the issue during the Hajj village’s sod-cutting ceremony on Friday, February 28. He emphasized the need of meeting the payment deadline and making sure that all required preparations are in place.
President Mahama declared, “The task force has set March 13th as the payment deadline, and we plan to airlift precisely 5,000 pilgrims to the holy land this year.”
He pointed out that a pre-finance agreement with a nearby bank had been made, guaranteeing that all deposits for lodging, transportation, and other amenities had been made.
In order to avoid any last-minute rush and problems, President Mahama also gave the task group strong instructions to stick to the 5,000-pilgrim limit.
“I’ve instructed the hard task force that they should cut off at exactly 5,000 and not go beyond 5,000. We don’t want the previous situation where people rush with late payments, and we are unable to airlift them and become complaining,” he added.
