The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong warning to heads of basic schools involved in imposing unauthorized fees for the registration of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates.
In a press release signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit, the GES emphasized that such fees are unauthorized and must cease immediately. Regional Directors have been instructed to work with District Directors to monitor the situation and take appropriate action against any heads of schools engaging in this practice.
The GES further directed that any unauthorized fees already collected should be refunded promptly, with a warning that failure to comply will result in sanctions. Heads of schools were also reminded that late registration for BECE candidates is not allowed, and all eligible candidates must be registered within the stipulated period set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The general public has been advised to remain vigilant and report any cases of unauthorized fees.
