Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament, hailed the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana, in a February 2024 interview with talk show host KSM.

“Is it the case that since independence we haven’t had good leaders, selfless leaders?” KSM posed to Agyapong during their interview. Agyapong replied by expressing how much he respected Nkrumah’s leadership style and philosophy.

“Despite being UP, I think Kwame Nkrumah is real. I believe in Nkrumah. Read my lips and repeat it until the next day.”

Agyapong kept praising Nkrumah’s services to Ghana, stressing the enduring effects of his projects and his forward-thinking vision.

“You know, they put out a lot of propaganda, and judging by the way Ghanaians behave now, we really needed Nkrumah at the time.” I [will] not back down from what I am saying, even if you hang me. Akosombo textiles; all of Kwame Nkrumah’s contributions to this nation. He was more than 200 years ahead of his predecessors.”

He continued, acknowledging that his political base could criticise him. “I know where the criticism will come from, but that is me,” he said. He is a wonderful man, and I am no longer a young man since I have completed my research and analysis,” he said.

Kennedy Agyapong made this comment months ago, but it has gained significance in light of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s recent, outrage-inducing remarks regarding Nkrumah.

The energy minister has faced harsh criticism for allegedly disobeying Dr. Kwame Nkrumah during his inauguration as vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate, the NPP flagbearer.

Speaking to a group of influential party members and supporters on Tuesday, June 9, 2024, in Kumasi for his official unveiling, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh stressed that President Akufo-Addo is the most successful development leader in Ghanaian history, surpassing even Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

“It has never happened in the history of Ghana. If President Akufo-Addo retires, I can hit my chest and state that since the nation’s inception in 1957, there has not been a president who has helped the state more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo.

“I am saying that from 1957 to now, whether you pick ‘your’ Kwame Nkrumah… there is nobody who has led Ghana and protected the country or developed Ghana more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he stated
